PPA, PAI, APEC-Antwerp/Flanders sign pact on Port Training Cooperation

OCTOBER 19, 2016, MANILA—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) signs an Understanding with the Port of Antwerp International (PAI) and APEC-Antwerp/Flanders (APEC) on capacity building and Philippine port development.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is an offshoot of the ongoing seminar on Logistics, Supply Chain Management and Ports Master Planning currently conducted by PPA in coordination with the representatives of the PAI and APEC.

Port security, free Wi-Fi now in place ahead of the Halloween break

OCTOBER 10, 2016, MANILA—A couple of days before the Halloween break, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has started to implement stricter security checks to complement the initiatives being imposed by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Maritime Industry Authority.

The PPA has likewise made sure that passengers waiting for their vessel boarding time will get free Wi-Fi access in 67 terminals nationwide.

PPA posts higher net income anchored on strong cargo traffic

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 26, 2016—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) posted a seven consecutive month of positive net income registering another double-digit increase after tax.

Latest data from the PPA showed that net income for the Jan-Jul 2016 period is at P4.39 billion or 16% higher than the P3.78 billion posted in the same period in 2015.

Likewise, the actual figure is higher by 64.22% compared to the target set for the seven-month period of P2.67 billion.

Ph cargo throughput up 11% in Jan-July as passage sector remains strong

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 22, 2016—Philippine cargo volume continue its strong performance climbing another 11% in the first 7 months of the year compared to the figure posted last year.

Latest data from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) showed that total cargo throughput reached 141.770 million metric tons (mmt) this year from 128.217 mmt registered in the first 7-month figure of 2015. Foreign cargo volume inch-up 12% to 86.302 mmt while domestic traffic recorded a 9% rise.

Nation celebrates National Maritime Week 2016

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 19, 2016—The Philippines is set for a busy but memorable week as the country is set to celebrate the National Maritime Week (NMW) from September 25-30, 2016.

The week is packed with simultaneous events nationwide ranging from sports fests, coastal clean-ups, capacity-building seminars, jobs fair, as well as singing and arts contests.

This year’s NMW theme is “Shipping: Indispensable to the World” was coined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the maritime policy-making body of the United Nations.

PPA reiterates strict compliance to anti-corruption policies as it relieves employee caught on Customs CCTV

New PPA GM brings new work culture, buckles down to work right away

MANILA, JULY 4, 2016—Newly appointed Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Atty. Jay Daniel R. Santiago issued a marching order to all officials and employees to be transparent at all times and prioritize clients at any given time.

Right at the very first minute of work, Santiago also ordered all junior and senior officials of the state-owned agency to refrain from holding any kind of meeting during office hours or from 8AM to 5PM in order not to disrupt delivery of public service.
