PPA RECOGNIZES WORKFORCE PERFORMANCE ON LABOR DAY

PPA honors port workers as frontliners of trade and travel on Labor Day.

01 MAY 2026 — In observance of Labor Day, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) conveys its recognition and appreciation for port workers and frontliners across the country, underscoring their indispensable role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the nation’s ports. Amid prevailing economic challenges, including the rising cost of basic commodities, services, and fuel, these personnel remain steadfast in the performance of their duties. Their commitment and resilience are vital in sustaining the unhampered movement of goods and passengers, thereby supporting trade, connectivity, and national economic stability.

Despite the increasing cost of basic commodities, services, and fuel, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said PPA personnel and port stakeholders continue to fulfill their duties with professionalism and commitment.

“Kinikilala natin ang bawat Pilipinong nagsusumikap, lalo na ang ating mga port employees, frontliners, mga operator, hanggang sa mga nasa likod ng mga sistema at opisina na araw-araw na nagsisiguro ng maayos, ligtas, at tuloy-tuloy na daloy ng kalakalan at serbisyo sa ating mga pantalan. Kayo ang tunay na lakas ng PPA. Ang inyong sipag, dedikasyon, at malasakit sa trabaho ang nagsisilbing pundasyon ng ating tagumpay bilang isang ahensya,” said PPA General Manager Jay Santiago in a statement addressed to PPA employees.

In line with its dedication to workforce welfare, the PPA continues to implement programs aimed at improving the well-being of port users. Among these is the Piso RoRo Terminal Fee program, which helps ease the financial burden on the transport of agricultural products, alongside initiatives to enhance occupational safety standards, upgrade port facilities, and promote better working conditions for employees and frontliners.

To further strengthen its human capital, the PPA also implements training and development initiatives under the Civil Service Commission’s Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM). These initiatives include competency-based training, regular safety and security drills, leadership development programs, and continuous upskilling aligned with international port management standards.

As the nation marks Labor Day, the PPA underscores that efficient port operations are driven by a dedicated workforce, backed by strong human resource systems and people-centered programs that make services more accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of Filipino people.
