Philippine Ports Authority heads towards full QMS, IMS compliance

08 NOVEMBER 2018, CORON, PALAWAN--The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced that the agency is now compliant with the requirements of ISO Standards on Quality Management System (QMS) and presently working on the full compliance on ISO standards on Integrated Management System (IMS).

The ongoing initiatives are in conformity with the requirements of Executive Order No. 605 s. 2007, which requires all government institutions to implement quality government management programs in all its core processes.

“It has always been the PPA's goal to make the agency a model government organization as far as ease of doing business and performance efficiency are concerned,” PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago said.

“Once these processes are completed, the PPA will become stronger as ever in terms of ease of doing business and a model government agency,” Santiago added.

Currently, 7 ports have already been QMS-certified while 2 ports are IMS-certified. The remaining 16 ports including the PPA head office departments are awaiting release of their QMS certifications, thus, making the whole PPA virtually fully QMS/IMS compliant.

Meanwhile, the first 7 ports that are QMS-certified will undergo transition to IMS. The IMS covers three international standards namely: ISO 9001:2015 (Quality); ISO 14001:2015 (Environment) and, OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Safety and Health).
