PPA steps up ‘green port revolution’ as Batangas, CDO receive GPAS awards

MANILA, 3 December 2018—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is stepping up its ‘green port’ initiatives in all its ports nationwide after two of the country’s top gateways were conferred with GPAS awards by the APEC Port Services Network (APSN).

The Port of Batangas and the Port of Cagayan de Oro received their respective GPAS awards from APSN recently.

Philippine Ports Authority heads towards full QMS, IMS compliance

08 NOVEMBER 2018, CORON, PALAWAN--The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced that the agency is now compliant with the requirements of ISO Standards on Quality Management System (QMS) and presently working on the full compliance on ISO standards on Integrated Management System (IMS).

The ongoing initiatives are in conformity with the requirements of Executive Order No. 605 s. 2007, which requires all government institutions to implement quality government management programs in all its core processes.

Cargo volume up 2% in Jan-July as Manila ports utilization remains healthy

MANILA, 05 September 2018—Philippine cargo volume registered a modest hike in the first seven months of the year despite the sluggish performances from almost all aspects of local and foreign trade.

Latest data from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) showed that Philippine cargo traffic totaled 147.271 million metric tons (MMT) in the January to July 2018 period or a 2% hike compared to the 144.412 MMT handled in the same period last year.

PPA sets sight on infra build-up as it marks its 44th Founding Anniversary

11 JULY 2018, MANILA—Marking its 44th anniversary exactly today, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is making a big investment in terms of port infrastructure in its bid to achieve its vision by 2020.

It is also in line with the current thrust of the Duterte administration to realize the golden age of infrastructure and be at par with our international partners.

Incidentally, the move is also parallel to one of the major programs of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of building better ports for the future.

Manila South Harbor handles largest cruise ship to dock in the Philippines

09 JUNE 2018, MANILA— The Manila South Harbor handled the biggest and largest cruise ship to dock in the Philippines, underscoring its readiness to accommodate the demands of the booming industry for the Philippines.

MS Ovation of the Seas, arrived at MSH on Saturday, is by far heavier and longer by 17,336 gross tons and 12.65 meters, respectively, than MS World Dream, the erstwhile largest cruise ship that docked on Philippine waters.

MS Ovation of the Seas is operated by Royal Carribean International while MS World Dream is run by Genting Hong Kong, Ltd.

PPA upbeat over prospects brought about by new MICT post-panamax cranes

07 JUNE 2018, MANILA— Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago witnessed the arrival of a pair of Neo-Panamax and a Post-Panamax quay cranes to be used at the country’s biggest container terminal, the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

The pair of cranes arrived Thursday.

“The new cranes will definitely boost the capability of the MICT and will definitely guarantee a congestion-free international container terminal,” Santiago said at the sidelines of the arrival ceremony held at Berth 6 of the MICT.

Manila port operators donate safety, communication equipment to MMDA

04 JUNE 2018, MANILA—Manila port operators International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) and Asian Terminals, Inc. (ATI) have donated at least a P20 million worth of safety and communication equipment to the Metro Manila Development Authority on Monday.

The pieces of equipment were donated to help the agency improve the traffic flow in the metro particularly container trucks plying the roads using the Terminal Appointment Booking System or TABS.

The donation was made possible through the intercession of the Philippine Port Authority.

PPA embarks on massive computerization, automation efforts

25 MAY 2018, MANILA—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is totally migrating to automated, modernized and mobile operations in its bid to transform the agency into a more responsive government organization to the demands of global trade.

As a starter, the PPA is replacing all its desktop computers with state-of-the-art laptop computers for more mobility and environment-friendly energy consumption.

PPA steps up infra upgrades as port revenues surge 9% in Q1

21 MAY 2018, MANILA—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is accelerating its port infrastructure projects after port revenues posted strong figures in the first three months of the year.

PPA continues to post favorable performance after posting a banner year in 2017 in terms of revenues and dividend remitted to the national coffers.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago said the positive deviation provides the agency bigger elbow room to further improve the ports with high concentration of cargoes and passengers.

PPA invests, capacitates outsourced personnel as it opens entry level positions to all qualified applicants

18 MAY 2018, MANILA—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is empowering all its outsourced personnel to compete with other qualified applicants in all its entry level and technical positions this year.

The initiative is in preparation for the full implementation of a Joint Memorandum Order among three (3) government agencies namely: Civil Service Commission (CSC), Commission on Audit (COA) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), requiring all government agencies to restrict the need of hiring outsourced personnel at the start of 2019.
