PPA SLAPS 30-DAY SUSPENSION VS BEN LINE AGENCIES, TRAVELPEOPLE AFTER CRUISE CHAOS

21 DECEMBER 2023, MANILA — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) put the hammer down as it slapped a 30-day suspension against ship agent Ben Line Agencies, Inc. and shore excursion  provider TravelPeople Ltd. after a cruise disembarkation fiasco at the Port of Manila went viral.

After a thorough investigation of the chaos that occurred during the docking of the MV Norwegian Jewel cruise ship at the Port of Manila last November 30, the regulator has suspended the Permit to Operate (PTO) of Ben Line Agencies and TravelPeople Ltd. for a period of thirty (30) days.

15 DISYEMBRE 2023, MAYNILA — Dismayado ang Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) sa Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) at Ben Line Agencies kasunod ng kaguluhan na nangyari sa pagdaong ng MV Norwegian Jewel cruise ship sa Port of Manila nitong Nobyembre 30, 2023 na nakaperwisyo sa mga turista at motorista. Nag-viral sa social media ang insidente na binansagang 'Cruise Chaos'.

PPA STATEMENT ON VIRAL CRUISE CHAOS

14 DECEMBER 2023, MANILA — On December 6, 2023, a Facebook post of Mr. Nelson Terrible entitled: "Cruise Chaos" went viral on social media with now more than 1,500 shares and counting as of today December 14, 2023. The PPA fully appreciates the concern of Mr. Terrible and shares the same sentiment with the irate passengers and motorists that day of November 30, 2023.

To help the public understand what truly transpired on the said date, here are the facts from the said incident:

5.1M PASAHERO INAASAHANG DADAGSA SA MGA PANTALAN, PPA PINAIGTING ANG SEGURIDAD NGAYONG HOLIDAY SEASON

12 DISYEMBRE 2023, MAYNILA — Kasado na ng Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) ang mas pinag-igting na seguridad at pagpapatupad ng mga hakbang para sa kaligtasan at kaginhawaaan ng mga pasahero na inaasahang dadagsa sa mga pantalan ngayong holiday season simula Dec. 16, 2023-Jan 15, 2024 kung saan inaasahan ang 5.1 milyong mga pasahero mula sa dating 4.7 milyong pasahero noong 2022.

PPA: "HIGHLY ENCOURAGED" ANG PAGSUSOOT NG FACEMASK SA MGA PANTALAN NGAYONG HOLIDAY SEASON

7 DISYEMBRE 2023, MAYNILA — Hinikayat ng Philippine Ports Authority ang mga pasahero ng pantalan na mag-suot ng facemask ngayong holiday season bunsod ng naitatalang pagtaas ng kaso ng influenza sa bansa. 

Ayon kay PPA General Manager Jay Santiago, bagamat hindi naman required ang pagsosoot ng facemask, mas makabubuti pa rin aniyang sundin ang mga basic health protocols gaya ng pagsiguro na mayroong tamang bakuna, paggamit ng alcohol, at ang palagiang paghuhugas ng kamay upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng virus. 

PORTS ON RED ALERT AFTER MARAWI BLAST

06 DECEMBER 2023, MANILA — The Philippine Ports Authoirty (PPA) is on 'red alert' status as part of the security measures following the bomb attack in Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City on Sunday that left four people dead and a couple of others injured. 

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said all port employees and security personnel have been reminded through a memorandum to always remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety and security of  the people inside and outside of ports. 

PPA TO END 2023 WITH A BANG, CHURNS OUT RECORD-BREAKING NUMBERS

04 DECEMBER 2023, MANILA — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is ending 2023 with a bang as major reforms paired with good fiscal management and governance continue to churn out record breaking numbers for the second straight year.

For one, the revenue booked by PPA from January to October this year jumped by 30.2 percent hitting an all-time high of P21.06 billion, already breaking the previous record high of 20.53 billion recorded last year. 

FOREIGN CONTAINER CARGO VOLUME UP AS GLOBAL TRADE GAINS TRACTION

25 NOVEMBER 2023, MANILA — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported a slight increase in foreign containers handled from January to October this year as global trade continues to gain traction translating to higher exports and imports.

Latest data released by the PPA showed a 1.34 percent increase in foreign containers handled to 4.08 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the 10-month period versus last year’s 4.03 million TEUs.

PH JOINS ASEAN ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE IN BALI

16 NOVEMBER 2023 —The Philippines, through the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is currently participating actively in the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Ports Association (APA) this November 13-17, 2023 in Bali, Indonesia together with other member nations.

The 9-member countries of APA namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines presented their respective papers that will serve as the springboard for future development and cooperation among member countries.
