A.
General Information.
TMO
Cuyo was established shortly after the PPA takeover on June 1, 1977 to
man one of the oldest ports in Palawan.
The
port of Cuyo caters to the cargo and passenger sea transport needs of
the people of Cuyo Islands which consist of Cuyo, Bisucay, Caponayan,
Lubid and Manamoc. It lies between Palawan mainland and Panay Island.
Its strategic location connects the province of Palawan, Antique, and
Iloilo in terms of trade.
PPA operates the cargo
handling services at the Port through the Special Takeover Unit-Cuyo
Port Services.

Port Profile
Location:
Latitude 10°55’33”N
Longitude 121°00’05”E eastern side of Cuyo Island. The Port is
situate
some 400 meters from the town
proper.
Sea Distance:
Cuyo is 174.5
nautical miles northeast of Puerto Princesa and 248 nautical miles south
of
Manila.
Port Area:
Total Port
Area - 5,984.49 sq.m.

Land Access:
The port area is
connected to the main road of poblacion with a single two-lane asphalt
road.
It is narrow and long with heavy
traffic experienced during the arrival and departure of vessels
Entrance Channel:
A reef on the north
side entrance of the harbor is marked by a beacon. A buoy is located
about ¼ mile southwest mark,
southside entrance.
Turning basin is
narrow with a width of 200 meters due to the presence of
coral reefs on both sides
Physical
Environment:
The port has a sandy
sea bed. Tidal range is 1.00 meter between MHHW and MLLW. Depth is
MHHW – 6 meters; MLLW –
4 meters. Location of the port is not ideal
for shelter during adverse conditions due
to northeast and
southwest monsoons.
Pilotage:
Not compulsory.
Navigational Aids:
The port is equipped
with only one rotating lighthouse installed at the Cuyo pier.
Storage Areas:
It has a warehouse
of 300 square meters
Telecommunications:
Smart services the
mobile phones in the area.
Safety and Security Features:
The Port Police
Division implements the ISPS Code. PPD ensures order and safety
inside the port through control of
vehicles, pedestrians, cargo and vessels. All the buildings have fire
extinguishers as required. Safety signs and signboards are
put/displayed in areas where it is needed.

VESSEL SERVICES
Berthing
Areas:
R.C. pier of 11 meters width x 92.5 meters long.
Roll-On Roll-Off
Ramp:
Roro ramp of 11m x 11m at the tip of the pier.
Fresh Water Supply:
Supplied by local residents due to minimal requirement.
Ship Chandling:
Can be arranged with local suppliers.

PORT FACILITIES
Medical Facilities:
Cuyo General
Hospital is available in town for first aid and minor cases.
Other Available Port Facilities:
A small waiting shed
was constructed by the LGU for passengers of coming in/going to
the
islands.

CARGO HANDLING SERVICES
Arrastre/Stevedoring:
Cargo handling
operations is being handled by PPA through its special take over unit (STU).
Warehousing:
There is one
warehouse of 300 sq.m..
Trucking/Hauling Services:
There are trucks
providing hauling services, but most of the port users have their own
vehicles used for hauling their own cargoes.

SERVICES FOR PASSENGERS, SHIPPERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Passenger Terminal Building:
The PTB has an area of
240 square meters. It can accommodate 200 passengers at one time.
Vehicle Parking Area:
Parking area beside the
TMO Building is about 200 square meters; the one fronting the Passenger
Terminal Bldg. would be
around 180 square meters. Total of 380 square meters.
Booking/Freight Forwarding:
There are
cargo forwarders in the
Municipality, but booking and freight forwarding are also serviced by
the shipping agencies.
Banking Services:
One rural bank
provides banking services at the area.
Airport:
At Bgy. Emilod in
Magsaysay town about 7 kms from Cuyo town proper is an airstrip for
small
planes. Seair flies to/from
Puerto Princesa and Manila.
