I.        FACT SHEET

 

A.   General Information. 

     

      The development of the port of Coron is a big leap from what it used to be. It has now

      become a busy and modern port.  Domestic vessels with passengers and conventional

      cargoes are handled at this port. It is also a loading point for fish and fish products bound

      for Manila. Other notable cargoes are cement and bottled cargoes.

 

B.   Port Profile

 

Location:

 

Latitude 11°59’39”N,

Longitude 120°12’33”E (southeast of Busuanga Island near Coron Island). 

 

Sea Distance:

 

It is 86.3 nautical miles from Puerto Princesa.

 

Port Area:

       

Total Port Area - 8,967.09 sq.m.

Comm’l Area  - 3,974.50 sq.m.

Opn’l Area - 4,992.59 sq.m.

 

Land Access:   

 

The Port is at Bgy. Tagumpay, about 1.5 km. from the poblacion.  Causeway is

connected to a single two way asphalt road going to poblacion and is heavily congested

during loading and unloading operations

 

Entrance Channel:

 

From East Passage:  From Lima Point due south after course 245°, Coron Point due

north after course to 310° to pier.  From West Passage: From Baolo point due south

0.5 miles off after course to 55° off Coron Point after course to 330°.     

 

Physical Environment:    

 

The port has a sandy sea bed.  Tidal range is 2.00 meters between MHHW and MLLW.

Depth is MHHW – 7 meters; MLLW – 5 meters. Location of the port is not ideal for

shelter during adverse conditions due to northeast and southwest monsoons. 

 

Pilotage:

 

Not compulsory.

 

Storage Areas:  

 

450 square meters warehouse and transit shed; and open storage of about 1,625

square meters.

 

Telecommunications:     

 

Smart and Globe cell sites service the mobile phones in the area.

 

Safety and Security Features:

 

The Port Police Division implements the ISPS Code. PPD ensures order and safety

inside the port through control of vehicles, pedestrians, cargo and vessels. All the

buildings have fire extinguishers as required. Safety signs and signboards are put/displayed

in areas where it is needed.

III.    VESSEL SERVICES

 

Berthing Areas:             

                       

Reinforced concrete wharf 123 meters long and 12 meters wide. Back-up area is 5,005

square meters. The wharf has 16 sets of rubber dock fenders.

  

Roll-On Roll-Off Ramp:

 

Roro ramp is 9 meters x 11 meters. 

 

Bunkering:

 

Available at local fuel stations.

 

Pilotage:

 

Not compulsory.

 

Fresh Water Supply:

 

Supply to vessels by local residents is minimal.  BACK TO TOP

 

 

IV.    PORT FACILITIES

 

Medical Facilities:    

 

There is one government hospital in the town proper – Coron District Hospital, headed by

Dr. Edgar Flores.

 V.    CARGO HANDLING SERVICES

 

Arrastre/Stevedoring:  

 

Prudential Customs Brokerage Service, Inc. (PCBSI) provides the cargo. handling services

at the Port of Coron.

 

Warehousing:  

 

There is one warehouse and one transit shed for common use at the operational area.

 

Container Yard:

 

Shipping company is renting concreted areas at the port used as container yard.

 

Trucking/Hauling Services:

 

There are trucks providing hauling services, but most of the port users have their own

vehicles used for hauling their own cargoes.

 

Porterage:

 

Porterage service is also provided by the cargo handling contractor – Prudential Customs Brokerage

Service, Inc. (PCBSI)

 

 

VI.      SERVICES FOR PASSENGERS, SHIPPERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC

 

Passenger Terminal Building:          

 

The PTB has an area of 375 square meters.  It houses the offices of the cargo

handling contractor and the clearing offices (LGU).  Capacity is 250 passengers.

 

Vehicle Parking Area:  

 

There is a designated parking area in front of the PPA TMO Bldg., beside the PTB,

which is 1, 290 square meters.

 

Banking Services:                

 

Landbank of the Philippines is the sole provider of banking services.

 

Airport:

 

Seair and Asian Spirit provide flights to/from Puerto Princesa and to/from Manila. The

airport (formerly YKR or Yulo King’s Ranch) is located at the town of Busuanga, It is

around 45 minutes ride to the Coron Port.
