A.
General Information.
The port of Brooke’s Point lies in the southern part of mainland
Palawan. It is 192 km. away
from Puerto
Princesa, and is a 4-hour drive via land transport. It is located at Bgy.
Bulingay of the same municipality. The port was a beneficiary of the
Palawan Area Development Project loan package, providing it with a
reinforced concrete pier approach, concrete pier landing, breakwater,
warehouse, open storage and parking areas. Major commodities
handled at the port are consumer goods, construction materials, and products of agricultural
industries.

Longitude 117°49’07”E (eastern side of Brooke’s Point).

It is 83.84 nautical
miles from Puerto Princesa.

Land Access:
The Port is area is one
(1) kilometer away from the poblacion, with two-lane
concreted road.
Traffic is slightly heavy
when there is unloading or loading operations at the pier.
Entrance Channel:
Entrance channel
starts three miles northeast from lighthouse to avoid coral reef.
Turning Basin:
Maneuverability room
area is 300 meters semi-circle then turn northeast towards entrance
channel. Good for shallow draft
vessels with minimum draft of 1.3 fathoms.
Physical
Environment:
The pier is exposed to
northeast and southwest monsoons. Sea condition in the area varies
accordingly to
prevailing wind. Tidal range is .75 meter between MHHW and MLLW.
Anchorage:
The anchorage is
located 700 meters from shore with sufficient depth of 9 to 10 meters
with
approximately 4
square miles going to the open sea.
Pilotage:
Not compulsory.
Navigational Aids:
Equipped with only one
rotating lighthouse at the northern tip of the bay entrance.
Breakwater:
Breakwater of 48m x
150m.
Storage Areas:
201 square meters
warehouse; and open storage of about 230 square meters. 450 square
meters warehouse and transit
shed; and open storage of about 1,625 square meters.
Telecommunications:
Smart, Globe and Sun
Cellular mobile phone companies have cell sites in the area.
Globe and RCPI provide
telephone, telegram and telefax services.
Internet cafés abound
also
in the area.
Safety and Security Features:
The Port Police
Division implements the ISPS Code. PPD ensures order and safety inside
the port through control of
vehicles, pedestrians, cargo and vessels. All the buildings have fire
extinguishers as required. Safety
Signs and signboards
are put/displayed in areas where necessary.
